About Us
The One World Cuisine Restaurant opened its doors in the middle of May, 2007. The idea was to promote a vegetarian diet and thereby promote individual health and in the process save animal lives. Staff were chosen for their committment to vegetarianism and interest in people. Our committment to quality food (often of the most expensve ingredients) and variety slowly built up a clientele and following. The restaurant became known for its altruism by spreading the word of vegetarianism, its positive influence on the human body and its positive affect on the earth.
It was decided to start a project at Murdoch University and on several occasions free samples of food were given to the public, as well as vouchers for free meals to the students. This won the hearts, as well as the gastronic interest of many people there. This was by no means the only venture into publicity. Previously shopping centres were also visited and one table was set up in a shopping centre. Even Kardinya Shopping Centre, which is just outside our door, was a place where we distributed free food samples. At this time other projects were being planned, including cooking lessons to encourage the practical approach to vegetarianism.
Because of the accelerated deterioration of the earth as a result of global warming, we felt the urgency in doing something radical to assist humanity in overcoming and ameliorating this problem. After careful financial consideration it was decided to go "free", i.e. to offer complimentary meals without any charge. This unusual step received quite a lot of publicity. The restaurant featured in the "home" section of the West Australian newspaper and staff were interviewed on Channel Seven's "Today Tonight". The restaurant received lots of queries as a result of that show. Also several local papers, including a Chinese one featured the restaurant in its stories. Towards the end of July the restaurant was featured in two video presentations over the internet on SupremeMaster TV. Perhaps others overseas will follow our initiative. There have been enquieries from other cities about our program and hopefully other people in the position to open up a restaurant with complimentary meals will do so. We believe that action is needed, practical action at the local level. Noble thoughts will not save our earth and our lives - practical action is critical right now.
What about the near future? If you click the "Events" link on the main page, you will find that we have started to offer complimentary meals at PAWS in Perth. The details are on the Events page. We are considering expanding to an additional premises of our own North of the River - some time in the near future. Contributions, which are never sought after, have helped us to pay for some costs, and this in part has allowed us to consider expanding. We thank the public for their kindness. Also, we keep a volunteer register and hopefully individuals will be used in other areas of endeavdour besides working in the restaurant. We hope to teach vegetarian cooking at another venue and perhaps volunteers might help members of the public to learn vegetarian cooking from the comfort of their own homes. New ideas are always welcome.
Our hope is that by our example other people will take a positive, proactive approach to the problem on earth. After all, we are ONE WORLD!
